Gamma Ball Rally 2019 – Incom-redible!

Before the summer comes to an abrupt end, each September we look forward to an incredible three-day charity adventure – that’s right, we’ve started our engines once again for the Gamma Ball Rally!

This year’s challenge is as ambitious as ever, taking twenty-one teams a total of 1,100 miles across five (possibly six if we stray into Austria to avoid the Swiss roadworks) European countries, all for a great cause.

Organised to raise well deserved funds for two UK based charities, the Gamma Ball Rally has made a significant impact over its seven-year history, to two organisations in particular – Action Through Enterprise, who help fight poverty in Ghana with free school meals and support for families with special needs; and SpecialEffect, a charity using technology and video games to enhance the quality of life of people with disabilities.

In 2018 the Incom-CNS team proudly brought home the prestigious first-place trophy for the second time after adopting a scare-tastic Monsters-Incom themed car and crew. Previous incarnations have seen us climb the ranks as the Incom-mandos and explore the now sadly extinct JurassIncom Park.

Back on board for this year’s rally, Incom-CNS Group CEO, David Hughes, said, “As proud Gamma Partners, it is our pleasure to be invited back for Gamma Ball 2019 to compete with our peers in the name of fun and fundraising for two outstanding charities. We applaud everyone involved – a massive effort each year goes in to planning such a huge event, from the logistics of the route right down to the finishing touches each team make to create unique cars and costumes. It’s an unforgettable experience and always amazing to be a part of”.

Also sharing the directions and driving duties this year in car No.11 is Group CTO Jason Kilvert and Group CFO Ian Hargreaves, alongside Gamma’s very own Head of Channel – North, Mark Boden.

To keep our rivals guessing, our team and transportation have transformed into a new Incom-redible theme for each of the three days. Don’t be surprised if you spot four grown men dressed up as superheroes and comic book characters – that’s just par for the course on the Gamma Ball Rally. Along the way, our Incom-CNS heroes will need to compete against other Channel Partners as they tackle various fun challenges for points towards the overall top prize; including go karting dressed as The Incom-redibles and a grand treasure hunt around a medieval French town disguised as a quartet of The Incom-redible Hulks!

From the starting grid in Lille, France, competitors quickly entered Belgium for some real-life Wacky Races karting action on the track at Couvin. Afterwards, we negotiated our way to Brussels before an overnight stay across the border in Luxembourg.

Day 2 brought yet more border-hopping, moving from Luxembourg back into France for an afternoon of treasure hunting around Riquewihr, hopefully collecting enough points and not getting too lost, before heading onwards and upwards to the mountains of Switzerland where the second day came to a close with a group BBQ in Zurich.
In tribute to our hosts and rally organisers, the theme for the final day was ‘The Incom-redible Daryl Pile’! Daryl is Managing Director of Channel at Gamma and a great sport. Our team donned identical blue suits and orange ties and sported ‘Daryl’ masks, no doubt causing some confusion as they left Bavaria and headed for Munich.

The final night of the Gamma Ball Rally is when the fundraising really gets underway, as the teams come together to reflect on their incredible journey at a glittering gala dinner with the rally awards presentation and charity auction hosted this year by hilarious comedian Hal Cruttenden. Organisers Gamma, together with all the help from participants and sponsors, aim to better last year’s £100,000 total for SpecialEffect and Action Through Enterprise.
